the planet’s bones
are weary
brittle bones
aching geology
the seas
devour themselves
soil erodes
to sourness and mud
gaping wounds
lacerations in the crust
so deep
the molten heart
erupts in shame

I once wrote ‘forever is a long, long time’. In this corner of the cosmos whatever fatigue eternity carries is only exacerbated by feckless and fruitless human effort. Would that it were a force for some sort of good. Alas, it’s just force for its own sake. Not that it gets us anywhere…
