don’t need rhyme (not all the time)
and seldom if ever at the end of a line
I don’t use it much but I choose it
at random for words and phrases
to ease the flow, to make it go
and seldom if ever at the end of a line
I don’t use it much but I choose it
at random for words and phrases
to ease the flow, to make it go
with different cadences, sense or nonsense,
just for fun, now I’ve begun I’d better
try some scansion just to prove that
I’ve got this poetry business more or less pat
so…
poems are expressions of
a literary sort of love
of words arranged in lines and parts
to show no matter how poetic art
renders fine emotion wisdom wit
it’s only ever half of it
One of those Facebook things - an assertion by someone on a poetry page that rhyme is a necessity in a poem. Not that I agree - and I said so - because the assertion was in my opinion a bit blunt and, for once, the poem it referred to - in free verse - was quite good.
This is just whimsy, a technical exercise but maybe with a sting in the tail. After all, whatever we write, whatever form or shape or syntax, style or substance, there’s always something more, whether we intended it or not…
