the boy was a line in the sand
between the surf and the shore
stretched below a blue-orange sky
the fire of it on the horizon
the blue of it arched above
the peace of perfection
the perfection of peace
the stillness that falls
in a wild mind becalmed
by descending evening
and a sea of waves
the boy at ease in the shallows
was swallowed up by the silence
of the planet rolling under him
as the sky folded itself away
in the direction of constellations
still too invisible to be there
