You, the people,
nourish a love that fires a bullet
from the heart, not to it,
transfusing a peace like healing
in the veins where bitterness once ran.
An extract from a longer poem, this is the conclusion that, even in times of violence, people, ordinary people, are capable of immense goodness. Against the oppressor, the destroyers, they are still capable of rewarding aggression with nurture.
