dusted snow
below the forest edge
and nowhere else
winter green
whitened to a shadow
in negative
a beer-bottle
half-buried in coarse gravel
the signs of construction
a wall
sodium orange
grey daylight
plastic on a poster
flapping uselessly
in the vague wind
ivy growing
on an embankment
a crow on a fence post
under another bridge
stumps of bridge-piers
stand in river water
sheep flock
behind dry-stone walls
the colour of winter grass
a stream winds
along the boundary
of a field
farm steadings
stretch along
the spring-line
and now snow
falling
From the archives. Moving home sets you the task of clearing out. In the process, these lines from 1995 came to light again, some remnant of commuting by train north to south and back again.

Such pen sketches were one way I passed the time as the countryside of Aberdeenshire and Moray flashed by. So much to see; so much to set down…
