Reach

Glisten,
Like love made.
Coagulant bodies slide
Upon the coming dawn.

This is, or was, hubris.
He proud,
In that sense, physical;
She, open, accepting;
Love, cavernous.

But the act
Of containment,
Intubation,
He, inhaled,
She, upon him like a lung.

That is how
One ensnares another.
Love holds the key.
What is conjoined
Is entwined,
Deeper still, entangled.

Thus, free love
Bears no fruit
But cost,
Free thought,
Coeval action;

Bodies in motion
Seed the future,
Making, out of instance,
Consequence.

Had a 5-minute spot at The Last Monday at the Rio in Hyndland Street in Glasgow on the 28th (September). Great atmosphere and lots of amazing contributors. Must go again. Thanks to Ross and the contingent who came for moral support and drinks.

I read three poems Word Formation, Reach and Navvy. Reach is the only one not previously published here. It was on the website 'Love Is The Law' (I'm not sure it's still on the go, though the print mags are accessible) with an illustration by Sarah Hillyard, the one I've used here.
